Mark Wahlberg’s iconic burger restaurant, Wahlburgers, has bid farewell to its downtown Toronto location after an impressive nine-year run. Situated at 46 Blue Jays Way, this outlet, along with another inside Toronto Pearson International Airport, had become a recognizable part of the city’s culinary landscape.

The sudden announcement of the restaurant’s closure came as a surprise, revealed through a post on the Wahlburgers Canada Instagram page. According to the staff, the decision was made “organically,” a reflection of the natural evolution of the business.

Wahlburgers, a burger restaurant and sports bar chain, was founded in 2011 in Hingham, Massachusetts, by chef Paul Wahlberg, in collaboration with his two younger brothers, the renowned actor Mark Wahlberg, and former New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg.

As of March 2023, the franchise had expanded significantly, boasting over 90 locations across major cities in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The Toronto downtown outlet held a special place in the chain’s journey and was featured in the television series “Wahlburgers,” which enjoyed a successful 10-season run on A&E. The show even dedicated an episode to the grand opening of the downtown Toronto location.

The closure leaves the Pearson Airport branch as the sole remaining Wahlburgers location in Canada. For those craving the chain’s famous juicy burgers, a trip to Terminal 1 at Pearson Airport will be the only option moving forward. The end of this era marks a significant chapter in Wahlburgers’ history, emphasizing the dynamic nature of the restaurant industry.
